The Imperial Presidency
This past Monday President Obama challenged the Supreme Court by stating that in effect it did not have the authority to judge “ObamaCare”. His comments were quite specific and challenges arose from many quarters rather rapidly. The following day, he refined his comments and made them less severe but that did not change the uproar from numerous quarters. On Wednesday the White House press secretary explained the President’s comments even more in an effort to quiet the uproar. Many Presidents have been upset at the Supreme Court, but that normally occurred after the court made a ruling that was contrary to the President’s desire. The greatest example was in the 1930′s when President Roosevelt threatened to stack the court with six more justices who would be in agreement with his desires. Fortunately, that went nowhere.
The media has been reporting and opining from every direction in an effort to make sense of the situation. Some suspect that the President was trying to intimidate the court, while others believe that he was sending a message to his base about his commitment to people without health insurance. This is just the latest example of President Obama acting like his decisions should not be questioned. Remember when he chastised the Supreme Court at his State of the Union address because the court ruled against him on campaign contributions by businesses.
Since the midterm election when the Democrats lost control of the House of Representatives, the President has stated that he will use his executive powers and the various agencies to achieve his desired results and not wait for Congress to act. True to his words, the auto industry has been given additional requirements concerning gas mileage for future cars. Kathleen Sebelius head of Health and Human Services issued a mandate for organizations associated with the Catholic church to provide medical insurance for areas that are contrary to the church’s tenets. That is still in the news and being fought by the Catholic church as an attack on the First Amendment. Unfortunately, there are hundreds of references in the ObamaCare bill that dictate “as directed by the head of HHS.”…WOW!!
General Motors and Chrysler were both in financial straits and the President in effect nationalized those companies. Bankruptcy laws were ignored as the government stepped in and provided federal money (i.e. taxpayers money). Even though the unions had no financial interest involved in backing the companies they received a huge share of the companies in the final settlement. There are those who say that the takeover decision was proper, but no one will ever be able to determine if the bankruptcy laws could have done the same. Under bankruptcy laws, both companies could have reorganized and eliminated some of the burdens that arose over the years.
Banks and insurance companies have not been immune to intrusion by this government. Some banks were forced to take TARP loans and later when banks wanted to return the money with interest to the government, the government dragged its feet so that it could keep more control over the banks. These actions all add up to an Imperial Presidency and until Congress and the people rise up in righteous indignation, it will continue and become more severe.

Several problems with this op ed in my opinion as it leaves out key important facts –
The car company bailout started in September of 2008 – Under a different president , And TARP was also , before this president. I concur with the fact that the president did offer his opinion on the Supreme Court’s power to declare the health care reform unconstitutional. (or parts of it which is also their call) Then the op ed states that the” congress ” and the people need to rise up to stop him ? That defies logic as it’s congress who ultimately shapes and votes on the legislation to be signed into law by the president. The frustration is valid , In my opinion the methodology isn’t. Submitted with respect.
I am almost 73 and for many years I have voted against incumbents, Republican or Democrat. They are the same. I have been voting Libertarian when possible. Ron Paul is a true patriot. Wish he wasn’t so old, but he is healthy and I think he would be a brake on the Congress which seems to rubber stamp whatever bill comes their way. Our forefathers knew that religion was something to keep out of the government. I just wish they had included in the Constitution two items: 1) a limit to the amount of words in a bill 2) a limit to the subject matter of a bill so we don’t have bills with numerous riders.
Senators and representatives are now just arrogant so and sos who vote for their masters: the folk who contribute the most cash to their next campaign.
But this election everyone will vote Democrat or Republican.

The reality is, the government will continue to operate the way they always have because we have too many people that won’t sit and actually think about what is going on.
Too many people feel they are entitled to the programs that the government is handing out; like the millionaire farmers receiving subsidies from tax payers NOT to grow food; while a good portion of the world is starving.
Or those living on the public dole that love the free hand-outs by government assistance (can we say tax payers) and then complain about the crime (yet won’t turn the thugs in) and that the houses they living in are sub-standard (while our military men/women live in tents in some foreign country).
Elected government officials battling each other for power and fame – while ignoring the please of the American people.
Yeah, sweeping out the government is going to be such an easy task – why not – we’re all of one mind here!
Mr. Obama is right to be dismissive of the Supreme Court. The SC has beome politicized and corrupted by the same forces that are corrupting the entire congress and most governor mansions. The insurance and health care companies like the cozy sitzuation as it is now and don’t want to deal with a form of universal health care, so they are spending huge amounts of money to influence anybody they can including SC members to find reasons to be against Obamacare.
I’m an American living in Switzerland. I’ve lived in a number of countries. Trust me when I say that the U.S. is in the Middle Ages compared to all other industrialized countries regarding its health insurance system. Let me explain why. The U.S. health insurance system is built around the employer not the individual. That means that your health insurance is dependant on your job and that limits your freedom to change jobs, move, or set up your own business. People are scared to lose their insurance because of the obvious reasons and because they may find it difficult to get new coverage at an affordable cost if they’ve had any health issues previously. It is a crippling problem. The Swiss system is by an order of magnitude better that the U.S. system: it is privately run i.,e. the insurance companies are all private and for-profit. Every residant of this country is required to have health insurance because it’s the only way to spread the risk and the only way to ensure that the state does not have to cover a large number of uninsured if they face catastrophic illness such as cancer, heart disease, etc. Restrictions due to pre-existing conditions are forbidden for basic care and only allowed if the insured wants supplmental coverage for a private room for instance. If a person decides to change jobs or move within Switzerland, his insurance goes with him automatically and forever. So, there is absolutely no issue of health insurance that clouds the decision to change jobs or set up one’s own business. Because the system is privately run as are many of the small hospitals and clinics, care is quickly available, is very good and uptodate technically, and satisfies virtually everyone. So, it’s the best of both worlds: the insurance is universal like in France, Canada, and the UK, but health care is quickly available unlike in those 3 countries and the quality of care and systems is very high like in many places in the U.S.
So, it is time for Americans to stop complaining about Constitutional rights and critizing Mr. Obama for attempting to bring the United States into the modern era. If Obamacare has a number of complicating conditions and issues, I think it’s mainly because of the intense politicking against it by the Republicans (most of whom I’m sure are corrupted by the health care industry) and special-interest lobbying against it which forced many concessions just to get it first voted.
Let’s talk about lowering the cost of health care. Why not start with eliminating punitive damages in tort liability suits and decreasing the technicality-crazy court system that is pervasive throughout the U.S. – in other words, let’s make the system less friendly to the lawyers and much friendlier toward handing out justice quickly and simply without exageration and therefore much less costly and wasteful. The liability insurance premium savings alone would change the nature of health care costs. But, to get this to happen, the enormous corrupting power of the lawyers’ lobbyists has to be eliminated as do the other forms of corrupting our legislators.
Some of you are convinced that Obama must lose the election. What on earth makes you think Romney or any other candidate today other than perhaps Ron Paul is not going to be thoroughly corrupted by big donors and will not work primarily in the interests of those special groups?
The problem is not Obama, it is corruption. Until we are rid of the current campaign finance system and can therefore rid our system of the systemic corruption of most of our elected leaders, I doubt any major truly positive steps can be taken in the general interest of the American public.
The only way to change the system is by getting rid of those that sit in the congress/senate – as most of them are lawyers and will do what it takes to keep the power they have.
It will never happen because the people of the United States one stand together and demand fair, equal justice for everyone; not just certain classes of people.

As a retiree from the military, it is a very cumbersome task to be able to voice your opinion openly about the Government or anyone elected or appointed there in. But, I do agree with my retired marine counterpart. Obama is something way more than just a very liberal Democrat trying to sway the Country into a Democratic way of life. He has steadily built the foundation, over the last 3 years, for a socialistic form of Government. I have had conversations with many people who are planning to vote for him yet again and when I ask them why, most say because he is a Democrat and they are a Democrat. This man is not a democrat, he is a socialist in Democrat’s clothing. It is not only him, but his wife as well. She has been observed numerous times questioning the traditions of the Flag, military and patriotic ways of thinking. Obama wouldn’t wear the American flag on his lapel because of his disdain for the war (this was prior to his election during his campaign trail). Even while campaigning the first time, on his podium he didn’t have the Presidential seal, as most candidates, he had his on personal emblem and logo posted on it. The war he was so against still rages on, he takes credit for the termination of Bin Laden and has started eyeing up Iran. Many of the people in this Country that voted for him have turned a blind eye onto all of the issues he said he would fix if elected. Now, he has informed Russia that once re elected he can further discuss pulling our defenses, in the form of missiles, out of Europe. He has also changed Bills he signed by going back and taking things out after all had signed into law. He has covertly sent idle threats out to the Supreme Court for them not to try and call his Obamacare unconstitutional. He did his homework. Studying law, studying and teaching Constitutional law. No better way to defeat your enemy than to be a scholar of your enemies ways.
well, Obama also said he did not care if he got elected to a second term or not, as long as he got the economy back on the right track, I would suggest, that this shows he does care about this country. I think that the healthcare issue puts a lot on the table for both parties and passions do run high. Yeah, he made a mistake in stating this. All candidates do make mistakes when they talk, its how bad of a mistake they make and whether or not they can overcome it. So far I think the Republicans have made much more serious mistakes in their speeches. I have not heard too many mistakes from Ron Paul.
If you had any idea as to Obama’s past, and all his associations, I wonder if you would be so nonchalant about him. This man is dangerous; he lies about everything and sealed his records. Everything that he has presented as “FACT” to the American people has been proven FALSE. What nightmare(s) lurch below which he has kept hidden from us. Today I heard that Obama has hired a firm in Spain to count all of the votes we cast in Nov., and then to relay to us in the U.S.who the final victors are. (the ballots will be transported to Spain for counting and tallying up.) Can you see them flying plane after plane to Spain with all of those ballots? Or can you see fake ballots already in place – in Spain to be counted, or perhaps the tallying up will be done without fake or real ballots? All they need to know is how many voters cast ballots in each individual state – and then declare a landslide vote for Obama. There will be no way to have a recount. The ballots will already have been disposed of. We have to denounce this. Also, we need picture ID’s in order to vote.

Obama has violated.the constitution by sending our troops into Afghanistan and Libya without consulting congress. He promised change but the only things he has changed are the good things. All the bad things are still there. The real racists are those wo voted for him just because he’s black. Neither party has the welfare of the voters at heart, only their beloved party. What we need is a viable third party or follow the advice of the authors of our constitution.

The level of frustration keeps growing for those of us who respect the concept of freedom. I fear, however, that there are still a lot of lemmings who will follow him down the cliff of freedom into the pits of servitude without hesitation because they are under the impression that he still holds promise for our country. It will be difficult to get it across to them that he is a DICTATOR through and through and will use every tool to his advantage if reelected to oppress this country and take it down. Anyone who can not see that has their head in the sand. They only need to look at the Holocaust. It happened a step at a time. My aunt was in England. She saw it. My husband’s father went to the concentration camps. He saw it afterward. I only hope that if we can get someone else in office they can reverse some of the damage that has been done. For those of you expecting Congress to impeach Obama because of his blatant lack of respect for the people and the constitution; You obviously forget who has the majority in the Senate. Even if the Republican’s submitted for Obama’s impeachment, they would have to get a 2/3 vote in both the House and the Senate. The would be lucky to get that vote in the House where thy have the majority. The Democrats in Congress are in bed with Obama so what makes you think they will go against him like that? The only thing we can do at this point is ensure that we get as many of the existing dummies in office, out of office, and get some new fiscally conservative blood in those seats.

I don’t completely buy the keywords thing for the Obama ads showing up. I have seen them on pages on this site that make NO mention of the man. Seen the same thing on other sites that have accessed that talk about current subjects from a conservative viewpoint. My belief is his people are paying google extra to purposely put them on websites that are known to criticize him and his politics. By having those ads placed there, they can datamine cookie info from the people that go to those sites. Big brother is watching.

The fact that Obama is moving into a sociialisitc approach to governing the U.S. and the fact that the American Public has been givne so many sugar coated carrots it seems impossible to gain any ground back toward the Constitutionality and the American traditions of freedom we once knew. When will the American public wake up and see that entitlements and handouts are not the way to prosperity and freedom? I am frankly tired of politicians and wish we could find some statesment who had the balls to stand up for us and do it with true integrity and with God at the center of their actions. Amen!

It is my understanding and belief that impeachment applies only to a bonafide president.. The fraudulent documents he has presented do not prove that he meets the qualifications for the office, in which case he would not be a bonafide president.
